Snow, What Fun!

It's a little late for a white Christmas, but that doesn't make it any less amazing! Where I live, snow is pretty much a myth. So everyone in my family was excited when the sky started pouring the stuff down by the bucketful.

It started snowing about ten o'clock last night, and there isn't much---only a couple inches. But we love it! As soon as we'd layered up, we stepped out into the white powder and began to play in it. We had a snowball fight, sledded down our driveway (which is a big hill with our house on the bottom), and went for a nice walk down the road to see the snow-covered cow pastures that belong to our neighbors. Then, since our fingers were starting to feel a little frozen, we went inside and sat down with some hot chocolate and a movie.

There are lots of fun things to do in the snow, from sledding to curling up with a hot drink. Here's some of my family's favorite activities to do on the rare occasion of snow!

How to Have the Ultimate Snowball Fight
1. Gather together a group of friends and family.
2. Divide yourself into teams and create bases for each team.
3. Create ammunition (snowballs).
4. Fight! If you get hit by a snowball three times, you're out. Whoever is the last man standing earns a victory for their team.

How to Sled (Without a Sled!)
1. Find a hill--it shouldn't be too steep, and make sure there are no rocks or trees in you path to ensure your safety.
2. Find a boogie board. This is necessary to sled without a sled!
3. Position the boogie board at the top of the hill.
4. Position yourself. If you're sledding with someone else, the lighter person should be in the front.
5. Have someone push you down and hold on!

How to Make Paper Snowflakes
1. Find a square piece of paper. If you don't have a square sheet, trim a rectangular piece of paper.
2. Fold the paper into a triangle, corner to corner.
3. Fold the triangle in half, corner to corner.
4. Take a pair of scissors and cut along the edges in any design you want. Make sure not to cut too much on the edge where it is folded so the snowflake can stay together.
5. When you're done cutting, unfold the snowflake.
**If you want to hang these up, use a hole punch to make a hole in the top. Then use thread or yarn to tie it.

How to Make Snow Cream
1. Find a clean patch of snow.
2. Scoop the clean snow into a bowl and bring it inside.
3. Put at least two spoonfuls of white sugar into the snow and stir. You can add more or less, according to your preference.
4. Pour one cup of milk into the snow and stir.
5. Eat and enjoy!

Do you have any favorite snow activities? Tell me in the comments what they are!

Smiles,
Lydia

  1. Ooh! Looks like y'all had fun. I really wish we were up there because there is no chance we are getting snow! XD
Before we moved, we used plastic garbage can lids the few times it snowed. Those work as round sleds. ;)
