1. What inspired the idea for your novel, and how long have you had the idea?
Actually, I was at school one day when the idea just sort of...fell into my head, in the words of J.K. Rowling. That was a while ago now.
2. Describe what your novel is about!
Well, umm, it's about, ummm....(trying to think of words to describe it without making it sound entirely lame)...it's about a girl who finds out that her mother is magical, and she gets whisked away to the magical world of Camelot where she must save the world.
3. What is your books aesthetic? Use words or photos or whatever you like!
Even small people who have nothing can save everything.
Friends get you much farther than loneliness does.
Don't take your family for granted.
4. Introduce us to each of your characters!
Margaret 'Maggie' James (protagonist)
A once warm, friendly girl, Maggie has cut herself off from the rest of the world ever since her dad went missing. Her mother moves the family to England, where Maggie learns a secret about her mother and her family and is whisked away to Camelot, which is torn by war. There, she discovers her magical powers and must help fulfill an old prophecy to save the world.
Elsie of Camelot
Elsie is the shy daughter of the king, but has been raised by Merlin. A powerful enchantress, she possesses amazing healing abilities. When Maggie arrives in Camelot, she sets in motion a prophecied series of events involving Elsie.
Saige of Malor
Saige, a vivacious, daring orphan girl raised in the mountainous country of Malor, finds herself caught in the middle of an old prophecy. She begrudgingly joins Elsie and Maggie's quest, and becomes their very best friend. Though she sometimes feels insignificant as she possesses no magical power, she may be able to sway the outcome war in their favor.
5. How do you prepare to write? (Outline, research, stocking up on chocolate, howling etc.?)
Well, I like to sleep a lot, because once I start writing, I don't like to stop, so there will be many, many sleepless nights.
6. What are you most looking forward to about this novel?
I've been planning this novel for a very long time, so I'm glad I'll finally be able to finish it.
7. List three things about your novel's setting.
Magical, mountainous, fairytale-esque.
8. What's your character's goal and who (or what) stands in the way?
The characters' goal is to end the war and fulfill the prophecy, but the rebels with which they are at war stand in their way.
9. How does your protagonist change by the end of the novel?
In the beginning, she was spiteful and closed off. But in the end, she is back to her friendly old self.
10. What are your book's themes? How do you want the reader to feel when the story is over?
I want my reader to feel...well, I can't describe it. You know how when you read a good book, when it's over you feel kind of weird? Like, it's over and you want more? That's what I want them to feel. However, there will be a sequel, so if all goes well, there will be more. ;)
Ooh, Camelot!!! Talk about underrated! Good for you for doing something off the beaten path!
